Cataclysm going to be enough to lure you back to WoW?

Postby Ashbringer on Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:51 pm

So I picked up the newest issue of PC Gamer, having not followed ANYTHING World of Warcraftish since... oh... March?

Cataclysm looks GOOD. Good enough to probably lure me back when the expansion comes out. Possibly good enough to get me to start playing casually (pvp/levelling) when I return in preparation.

Anyone else?

Oh... and Diablo III looks ridiculously fun as well. I recommend the Nov. issue of PCGamer, it's well worth it.

at best, I'd play for a summer.

I highly doubt it though - SC2 and D3 all the way. I don't really want another binding time-sink like WoW anymore

No.

You know how if you walk all day and your feet hurt and then you go home and take your shoes and socks off and they hurt worse? I think wow is like sore feet. Even after I stopped playing, my hatred continued to swell.

I'm on the fence about SC2. I tried to get into Supreme Commander, and I have just developed a loathing of RTS games in the last couple years. I can't explain it... loved SC and AoE... can't stand them now.

D3 I'll play the hell out of, but its still over a year away.

Right now I've got... well... Eve Online, and Fallout3/Mass Effect whenever I feel the need for something else. I'll probably join you peeps on whatever Xboxlive love is going on when I get back in january, but that's still a few months off.

Ya'll say Aion sucks, so I'm left contemplating... ffxi or wow.

if ur in need for a a fun single player RPG, grab a hold of Dragon Age Origins. Enough to easily hold your attention for 60 hours or so, with so much optimization and choices to make along the way that you could easily replay the game a dozen times and still keep seeing new things. Bioware kicked some major ass when they made this game.

Aion is still fun enough for me to play every now and then, but lvling is literally a chore. Can't wait for D3.

I think the analogy was fairly descriptive. Except instead of "all day" it was "four and a half years".

wow was good but I think I'm done with it. I am looking forward to whatever the next game is that will hold my attention for more then one day. I think battle net is going to have a more mmo feel to it so it'll probably be starcraft 2. I think the user map settings games are going to be really fun. I have yet to play DotA, so I am hoping/think there will be something like that.

More to the point, Cataclysm will most likely be what finally gets me to quit. My hatred of leveling now burns with the heat of a billion suns.

I got all psyched to powerlevel my mage for some RMP action the other day and as soon as the bar turned pink I was like "fuck this".

D3 will control my digital soul as well.

I still log D2 on a random day throughout the month to enjoy mindless slaughtering.

I signed back on wow recently and all it made me realize is that i'm thoroughly done with the game. The only part of wow that holds any interest for me was the people.

More so i'm finding video games just don't hold my attention like they did when i was younger. I couldn't even finish dragon age origins. I reached the dwarf area where the game becomes grinding the same groups of mobs over and over through a giant dungeon and i just said fuck it. The only way i can grind is if there's people to chill with while i grind.

My mage is probably reaching forever retired status as soon as my current game time expires, which is in like 5 days. I don't plan to buy cataclysm anymore. I'll see everyone on d3 and sc2, and ffxiv. If those games don't hold my attention i'm probably going to officially join the world of people who barely play video games.

i finished dragon age and yea i did the dwarf area last and found it rather annoying.

I can't bring myself to play throught it a second time...not sure why. I enjoyed the first play through but idk, im meh about it.

I logged into wow 2 days ago, probably paying for the month of january since im out of school and really not much of anything else to do till semester restarts...but i was online for 20 mins and haven't really felt like logging back in much since lol.

I never actually set aside the time to play Mass Effect. Like, I'd log on, shoot some shit, but never really got immersed in the storyline or canon.

So now, that I'm working night shift and have a bit more time, I've started playing it, and I'm actually really enjoying it. I was not allowed to buy Dragon Age, as my relatives have started telling me "don't buy x,y,z" otherwise they will be unable to get me a christmas gift I haven't already bought myself.

But I'll pick that up next after Mass Effect.

Edit: I still play a lot of Eve Online. It's single-shard, politics heavy, with spying, espionage, and unforgiving pvp. Also, cramming 1300 people into one solar system in a massive battle is unmatched by any other MMO out there.

And unlike darkfail, the game itself is stunningly beautiful, and does not resemble something I lanced off my ass.

I'm already dreading the carpal tunnel that D3 will inflict upon me ...

I've been mostly playing L4D2 on PC, Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 , Disgaea 2 on PSP while taking the train to/from work

Enjoying all three for their own reasons. Disgaea games can get so grindy it hurts, but the PSP is a good format for it.
